Tell us a little about yourself.
We are Myles and Brittany Scott. We have been married for six years and together for 11. We have two kids: our daughter, Grogan (3), and our son, Woods (10 months). We also have two fur babies, Copper and Penny.
What do you both do for a living, and how long have you been in those positions?
Brittany: I have owned and operated Braco, Inc. for 16 years. Braco is a local dumpster and trucking company. I am also in the process of taking the reins and overseeing the daily operations of our family-owned business, Hazex Construction, which is where Myles works. He came on board in March 2024 to help take some of the stress off me. We have a great team of people at both companies, and we are very fortunate to work with them.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the disposal and concrete, demolition, and excavation businesses?
Brittany: My favorite part is definitely the people I get to interact with and help on a regular basis.
Myles: My favorite part is everything I’ve learned in such a short time. I am a former Kentucky State Trooper, so coming from that into a private, family-owned business in a different field has been a challenge, but an exciting one.
When you aren’t both busy managing these local businesses, what hobbies do you and your family enjoy?
Brittany: Our individual hobbies couldn’t be more different! I love to thrift and needlepoint.
Myles: I love to hunt and watch the Braves or UK. As a family, we enjoy going to the lake in the summer and doing anything that involves all of us together. We’re also active members of Zion Baptist Church and love our church family.
How do you balance work and family life, especially as local business owners?
Brittany: Managing work-life balance is a challenge that I think most families understand. When possible, I take the opportunity to bring Grogan to work so she can grow up around the family business, just like I did.
Myles: I came on board to help alleviate some of the stress of owning two businesses. I have learned so much and enjoy what I do.
What do you love about Henderson that made you want to return to our small town to start your own business and/or join the family business?
Brittany: Doesn’t every girl want to own and operate a trash company?! When I was little, I always said I wanted to be a driver of every kind of vehicle, one of them being a garbage truck. I guess I grew up and got to accomplish my dreams, although I am not a good truck driver! My great-grandfather and grandfather started the business in 1949, and my dad took over in 1989. To me, it seems like the obvious reason why I’ve always wanted to step up and help carry on the family business.
