5th grade at Holy Name School
Have you ever had a teacher who inspired you to think differently? Well, I sure did but it might not be the kind of teacher you would expect. Most kids want a teacher who is all fun, games and just plain sweet. But not me, I want a teacher who will push me to my limits and make everyday an adventure. For me that was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Rowe. Mrs. Rowe did your normal first grade things but she took it to the next level. Like in math when we did greater than and less than, we became explorers in a swamp watching alligators chomping on the bigger fish. Also in science our experiments came to life from exploring different species of animals to becoming architects where we built important landmarks from all around the world. The building I decided to construct was the Taj Mahal but we called it the Taj “McCall”.
She always had fun decorations to welcome us to the classroom and help us feel excited and ready to learn. The year I was in her class the theme was candy. The entrance to her class was decorated like a life sized candy land. Because of that she made all the rewards candy. Like when you got an A+ on your math test you would get a king sized candy bar or if you finished a sight word book she would give you a ringpop. If you were good at mass you could get a gummy bear from the jar and my class was always good at mass!
We were always connected as a class. In the mornings, before the bell, we went to her class and everyone played together. We had a chance to start our brains before the day started. We played games like go fish or played with little bug toys. In her class I always felt stimulated, curious and committed to my learning.
Mrs. Rowe is a teacher I’ll never forget. She shaped me to be the considerate, respectful, and hardworking person I am today. I am so thankful for Mrs. Rowe.
